The Prophet: Heart On Fire, Mind Renewed

In our readings we hear of two traits that make for a prophet (one who speaks God's word):  A heart on fire, and a mind transformed by the Gospel.  

We are all called to be prophets.

The Food That Truly Satisfies - homily

The Gospel needs to be shared because we who have come to believe in it are convinced that it is what truly responds to the deepest needs of every human heart.  The Church is calling all the faithful to a New Evangelization.  This is something we see happening in the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes and it can happen in our midst, too.

If He Has Not Been Raised, Our Faith Is in Vain (Apr 20, 2014)

If Jesus has not truly been raised from the dead, the Christian faith is empty and meaningless.  If he has, we should be filled with joy and impelled to mission.  Life cannot be the same without a relationship with Jesus if, indeed, he is is the Lord of life!

Among the Living (Easter Vigil - Apr 19, 2014)

The saving waters of Baptism enter us in to the life of the Risen Lord.  He is not to be sought among the dead, but among the living.  Christians need to be fully alive - to have and share the joy of the Resurrection.

The Cross: For Us (Good Friday - Apr 18)

The Cross of Jesus happened because of us (because of our sins) but moreso it was FOR us - for our salvation.  It is the revelation of love and shows the power of the Divine Mercy.

How Fickle Is the Human Heart (April 13, 2014 - Palm Sunday)

The crowd that changes its tune from "Hosanna!" to "Let him be crucified" is us.  As we hear of our Jesus' Passion, let us not merely feel sorrow, but come to love and obey him.  If we do not, our sorrow is but one more mockery directed at our Lord.

Come Out and Be Freed! (Apr 6, 2014)

Jesus weeps at the death of his friend Lazarus.  Or is there something more behind his sorrow?  

He turns to us in that sorrow, asking us to "come out" of the darkness and be freed from the bonds of sin.  

Fifth Sunday of Lent (Yr A)

"Are you blind?" (Mar 30, 2014)

The healing of the man born blind invites us to a deep reflection on our lives.  Do we see as God sees?  By the way we love the poor, we can get a glimpse of the answer in our lives.  Let us encounter Jesus and His mercy in the poor.

Guilt Is Not the Enemy (Mar 9, 2014)

Jesus' Temptation in the desert stands against Adam and Eve's disobedience in the garden.  We need to accept the reality of sin in our lives and not ignore it in order to avoid the bad feelings of guilt.  In so doing, we may be trying to hide from God.  But we really only succeed in hiding ourselves from the greatest gifts He desires to give us - His mercy and grace.  Guilt is not the enemy, sin is.

God Never Tires of Forgiving Us (Mar 5, 2014)

"God never tires of forgiving us.  We are the ones who tires of seeking His mercy."  Pope Francis' words help us begin Lent with confidence, not in ourselves and our own strength and willpower, but in God's great mercy.  He never tires of inviting us back to Him.
